Male', MALDIVES - Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has announced that they will be having this year's congress on March 25, while some member clubs are working to remove the current President of FAM, Bassam Adeel Jaleel from the position.
"FAM Annual Congress 2019 will be held on 25 March 2019. Convocation details will be formally sent to the members." FAM tweeted from their official twitter handle today.
Recently Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Emepowerment, Ahmed Mahloof said that the majority member clubs has agreed to call for an extraordinary congress to remove FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel.
“According to my knowledge the majority of member clubs of Maldives FA has agreed and signed the document to call for an extra ordinary congress due to FAM'S involvement in political activities, several actions which has damaged football and which are against the FAM statutes,” Mahloof said.
Recently Minister, Ahmed Mahloof formed a fact finding committee to check the reason why Maldivian clubs missed the chance of getting the opportunity to play in AFC Cup 2019 and FAM requested for an advice from AFC regarding the matter and the governing body of Asian Football, AFC gave a warning saying that they will not entertain any third party interference.
"We would like to emphasize that Football Association of Maldives is an independent Non-Governmental Organization and the AFC stated that all Member Associations must fulfill their duties without any third party interference."
"Bearing in mind the above, rest assured that the Asian Football Confederation has zero tolerance towards any third party interference and the AFC is closely monitoring the situation in FAM." said in a letter addressed to the general secretary of FAM, Hussain Jawaz.
