Male', MALDIVES - Governing body of world football, FIFA has warned Maldives about a possible suspension if there is any influence from third parties.
In letter signed by the Secretary general of FIFA, Fatma Samoura, FIFA said that they take note with grave concern of the apparent undue influence in the activities of FAM, as well as several clubs affiliated to FAM by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.
"We take this opportunity to firmly remind FAM of the contesnts of art. 14 par. 1 let. i) and art. 19 par. 1 of the FIFA Statutes, which stipulate that all member associations are obliged to manage their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties. Therefore, should the alleged interference of the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment continue, this would be considered undue influence in the sense of the FIFA Statutes and the matter would be presented to the relevant FIFA bodies for consideration and possible action, which may include, amongst others, a suspension of FAM." Said in the letter addressed to General Secretary, Hussain Jawaz.
FIFA also said that they will conduct a fact-finding mission to the Maldives on 3 and 4 March 2019 along with Asian Football Confederation in order to speak with the relevant stakeholders and clarify the situation.
