Male', MALDIVES - Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof has said that the funds from the State owned Enterprises (SOE) will be provided through the ongoing works to reform Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and if the clubs are willing to provide their cooperation and support in the work that the government is doing to reform football in Maldives, the Ministry in collaboration with the President Office we will be able to provide these funds to the clubs.
“We have to find a solutions for the clubs through which they no longer have to beg neither the government nor FAM nor any other entity” Mahloof said in an exclusive interview given to 'Mihaaru'.
Mahloof also raised concerns questioning whether FAM will be able to provide these funds to the clubs.
“FAM has been trying to convince the clubs that if the Government hasn’t provided the fund by March, they will. Well, I would better know the complains we (Ministry) have been receiving regarding unsettled bills by FAM. How can they give MVR 30 Million, while they still haven’t paid Rock Street Club MVR 10,000 price money for winning the 3rd Division, from where will they find this money?” Mahloof questioned.
Recently FAM has announced that starting next year these funds will be provided to the clubs directly by FAM.
Mahloof also reiterated that the vote FAM is to cast during this year’s AFC and FIFA elections should not be in the interest of certain individuals.
“Neither the AFC nor FIFA wants FAM’s vote by providing any further assistance to Maldivian Football. And there’s been nothing done to further develop Maldivian football. We don’t want this to happen. We want Maldives to benefit from this” Mahloof explained.
The Minister assured that he wouldn’t go beyond the limits and bounds at any cost.
“I don’t want to be labeled as someone who has got his hands in controlling the whole sports forefront. Even now all the works that’s on going within the Sports Council is been carried out very independently. Due to political indifferences I would never try to oust someone from their assigned post(s).” Mahloof quoted.
