Dhaka, BANGLADESH - Maldives advance to the semi final of SAFF Suzuki Cup after a coin toss when India defeated them by 2-0 in the last match of Group B.
Both Maldives and Sri Lanka were tied in Group B in terms of points and goal difference. In the end, a coin toss decided the fate of those two teams as Maldives advanced into the semi-finals.
India started the game with five changes against the Maldives on Sunday while Maldives made three changes to their starting line-up. Asadhulla Abdulla, Ahmed Imaz and Ibrahim Mahudhee started the game against India.
It was a balanced game and the first chance came from the Indian side after nine minutes into the game. Chaudhary's header inside the box was cleared by Maldives midfielder Mohamed Arif.
After 34 minutes, Nikhil Chaudhary took the lead for India after receiving a through pass from the midfield and shot it into the bottom corner of the net.
A minute before the break, Manveer Singh doubled the lead from another descent volley inside the box and confirmed the three points.
Maldives started the second half with a change however, they were unable to score a goal against India.
Skipper Akram Abdul Ghani's long range shot went inches away from the post and few minutes later, Naiz made another good shot but went wide.
Maldives will play against Nepal in the semi final of SAFF Suzuki Cup and India will play against Pakistan in the second semi final on Wednesday.
