Maldives advance to the final after nine years

Dhaka, BANGLADESH - Maldives advanced to the final of SAFF Suzuki Cup after beating in-form Nepal by 3-0 on Wednesday at the Bangabandhu Stadium. Akram Abdul Ghani and Ibrahim Waheed Hassan scored the goals for the Maldives.

Petar Segrt made five changes to the starting lineup who faced India, Mohamed Arif, Mohamed Irufan, Mohamed Mujuthaz, Asadhulla Abdulla and Ahmed Imaz left on to the bench and they were replaced by Hussain Nihan, his debut for the national team, Hamza Mohamed, Ali Fasir, Naiz Hassan and Samdhooh Mohamed.

Maldives broke the deadlock after nine minutes from a wonderful free kick from the skipper, Akram Abdul Ghani.

Nepal's first attempt came in the 16th minute, Maldives keeper Faisal cleared the shot from Bharat Khawas.

Maldives attacking duo, Ali Fasir and Ibrahim Mahudhee were unlucky to put their names on the score sheet before the break.

After 28 minutes match commissioner stopped the game played at the Bangabandhu Stadium due to heavy rain, thunder and lightning. And the match was re-started after 30 minutes.

Six minutes before the break Nepal missed another good chance to level the game. Keeper Faisal blocked the shot from Bimal and Bharat Khawas shot from the rebounded ball went wide.

Things went infavour of Maldives when Asadhulla Abdulla was introduced into the game. Ibrahim Waheed Hassan scored twice in just three minutes from the Asadhulla's assists.
