Nominees for the best player award revealed

Male', MALDIVES - and Football Association of Maldives have finally announced the six shortlisted candidates for the Maldives Football Awards best player of the year.

The six candidates for the best player award includes; Maziya Sports and Recreation Club's Naiz Hassan, Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain and Ibrahim Waheed Hassan from TC Sports Club, Ahmed Rizuvan from Club Eagles, Ali Fasir from New Radiant and Ali Ashfaq, who played for TC Sports Club and New Radiant this season.

Naiz Hasssan (Dhaadhu) - Maziya SRC

Naiz took a bit of time to find his best form in his first season with Maziya. Naiz’s resurgence in the second half of the season helped Maziya to finish 2nd in Premier League. Naiz also performed well in SAFF Suzuki Cup.

Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain (Feydhoo Ibbe) - TC Sports Club

Mahudhee enjoyed a good season winning the Dhivehi Premier League with TC and the SAFF Suzuki Cup with Maldives national team. Ibbe provided important goals both for TC and the national team. Based on his performance over the past two seasons, he has emerged as one best attacking talents in the country.

Ibrahim Waheed Hassan (Ibbe) - TC Sports Club

Ibbe is definitely one of the stand out players of the season. Ibbe was an integral part of Dhivehi Premier League winning team of TC and also the national team that won the SAFF Suzkui Cup. Playing from the middle, Ibbe scored important goals for both club and country throughout the season.

Ahmed Rizuvan (Rizey) - Club Eagles

Rizey enjoyed his best season so far, ending the season with 35 goals. Rizey got on his scoring boots in the second half of the season. Rizey completed hat-trick’s in 5 consecutive games, equaling the world record. His performances and goal scoring formed managed to get him back in to the national team.

Ali Fasir (Sentey) - New Radiant SC

Winner of the award in 2017, Fasir played an important role in New Radiant’s triumph in STO Male’ League. New Radiant slowed down in the second half of the season but Fasir finished the season with 28 goals. Fasir was also part of the Maldives national team that won the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018.

Ali Ashfaq (Dhangadey) - TC Sports Club and New Radiant SC

Top scorer of the season with 42 goals, Ashfaq was phenomenal throughout the season. Even though he began the season with New Radiant, Ashfaq moved to TC Sports Club in the mid-season transfer and turned out to be the “hero” in TC’s march to their first ever Dhivehi Premier League title.

The winners of the Maldives Football Awards 2018 will be determined through a combined voting process, in which the decision is based on the votes of captains and head coaches of first division teams and head coaches from first division and second division along with selected sports journalists.

Maldives Football Best Player 2018 is one of eleven prizes to be announced at the Maldives Football Awards in Male on December 29.

The other awards are Best player, Best Goalkeeper, Golden Shoes, Best Foreign Player, Fan Award, Jooley Award for the best goal, Most promising player, Women player, most promising women player and FAM honorary award.
