Male', MALDIVES - Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof has said that the government of the Maldives will not do anything related to FAM, which will face a FIFA suspension.
"We will not do anything which will face a FIFA suspension and we can confirm that FIFA will not suspend Football Association of Maldives." Mahloof said to maldivesfootball.com after his meeting with AFC President Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Khalifa in London on Saturday.
"Had a very productive meeting with AFC President Sheikh Salman. Assured H.E. that we will not contravene FIFA constitution & we will always welcome their advice. The Fact Finding Committee will work within the boundaries." Mahloof said in his tweet after the meeting.
Recently Minister, Ahmed Mahloof formed a fact finding committee to check the reason why Maldivian clubs missed the chance of getting the opportunity to play in AFC Cup 2019 and FAM requested for an advice from AFC regarding the matter and the governing body of Asian Football, AFC gave a warning saying that they will not entertain any third party interference.
"We would like to emphasize that Football Association of Maldives is an independent Non-Governmental Organization and the AFC stated that all Member Associations must fulfill their duties without any third party interference."
"Bearing in mind the above, rest assured that the Asian Football Confederation has zero tolerance towards any third party interference and the AFC is closely monitoring the situation in FAM." said n a letter addressed to the general secretary of FAM, Hussain Jawaz.Speaking to maldivesfootball.com FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel said that they will always welcome the government to audit the government funds.
"We will always welcome the government to audit the government funds and I have mentioned that with the Minister in our meeting." Said Bassam.
